About

Regine Neuhauser

Historian, art historian, historical author, lecturer, and licensed tour guide, Regine has spent more than two decades bringing Vienna’s and Austria’s rich historical and cultural heritage to life for intellectually curious travelers, educational groups, and engaged readers from around the world.

Holding a Master’s degree in History and Art History from the University of Vienna and drawing on many years of experience teaching at the university level, Regine combines scholarly expertise with a gift for storytelling. Her lectures, tours, and publications go beyond the presentation of facts creating meaningful encounters with Vienna’s and Austria’s rich historical and cultural heritage and bringing to life the remarkable individuals who shaped their past.

Regine’s versatile and international career reflects the breadth of her interests and expertise. Her professional experience includes

  • serving as a Junior Professional Officer with the International Labor Organization on a tourism development project on Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania;

  • lecturing and developing curricula for the Tourism Department of Divine Word University in Madang, Papua New Guinea;

  • teaching at the Academy of Diplomatic Studies in Vienna

  • working as a lecturer and tour developer for a U.S. river cruise company operating on the Danube;

  • designing a historical stage production about Emperor Franz Joseph and Empress Elisabeth (“Sisi”), featuring authentic costumes and historically accurate reenactments.

Beyond her academic training, Regine’s affinity for art stems in part from her father, a conservator, painter, and recognized specialist in 17th-century Dutch painting, whose influence fostered her lifelong interest in art and culture.

My Story

A Lifelong Passion for Vienna

I grew up fascinated by the stories behind Vienna’s buildings, its art and its people. As a child, I would stand in front of paintings in the Kunsthistorisches Museum and wonder who these people were, what they felt, what world they lived in. That curiosity never left me — it became my profession.

After completing my Master’s degree in History and Art History at the University of Vienna, I became a licensed tour guide and began what would become a career spanning more than twenty years. I have had the privilege of guiding thousands of visitors through this city — from heads of state to families, from university groups to cruise passengers, from art lovers to history enthusiasts.

What drives me is the belief that history is not something distant or dusty — it is alive, personal and deeply relevant. When I tell the story of Empress Elisabeth or Maria Theresa, I want my guests to feel the weight of a crown, the loneliness of a court, the courage of a decision. That is what makes a cultural experience truly unforgettable.

My Approach

How I Work

Every group is different, and every experience should be, too. I take time to understand your interests, your pace and what you hope to discover. Whether it’s a two-hour museum visit or a full-day programme, I craft each encounter to feel personal, never generic.

Personal Connection

I listen to your interests and weave them into the narrative. No two tours are the same because no two guests are alike.

Scholarly Foundation

Everything I share is grounded in rigorous historical research. I bring the latest scholarship to life in an accessible, engaging way.

Flexible Formats

Walking tours, vehicle excursions, museum visits, lectures or full-day programmes — I adapt to your needs and group size.
